Your Top 10 List Sucks

But So Does Everyone Else’s

Seriously, I’ve had it with top 10 lists. I hate them, I really do.

I should know, I’ve written enough of them for my other SEO Blog over the years and for clients who have requested them or as outreach work — but they don’t such just because they are a pain to write, or make unique, there is one overriding reason as marketers we shouldn’t be writing ‘Top 10’ articles anymore.

We reached ‘Top 10’ saturation point long ago!

Top 10 related articles trending

The above Google Trend is for the term ‘top 10’, it illustrates clearly a downward forecast in both searches and interest overtime for this term. This is across all categories.

Put bluntly, people are bored of listicles of our top ten tips to improve this, or make use of that, or top 5 or top 7, seriously stop it — it’s time to find a new way to engage our target market through our blogs with meaningful content.

How do we engage our audience, if not with ‘top 10’ lists?

(so tempted to write 5 ideas here…)

The best way to engage an audience is with short snappy content they can engage with. Make it easy to read with headings that make sense. Keep it simple.
