April 2023 — The Latest News From Google Search
Algorithm Updates are coming thick and fast now, after what seemed like an eternity without any at the start of the year.
In March and April, we’ve had a series of updates: two for Review Updates and a Broad Core Update.
I have spoken about these updates in some detail in recent SEO Podcasts which you can catch on YouTube or across on Apple Podcasts or Spotify.
Google (Product) Review Updates
In late February, we saw the first major update of 2023 with a Product Review Update — the update saw the review system, as it became known, roll out across the globe for the first time and not just in English language territories.
It also saw a large update to the system with a further focus on user experience and quality of content.
Last Week (April 2023), Google again updated the Review System — the algorithm is now not just about products but applies to ANY reviews. This means if you write about movies, games, holidays or absolutely anything (in theory) you need to consider the review system algorithm.

The First Broad Core Update of 2023
Mid-March saw the first broad core update of 2023, whilst we had expected it earlier in the year the updates before had been smaller and more focused.
The broad core update was, like the review update, focused on user experience and really hit across every sector with a clear run too on a removal on spammy type websites and sites supported by them — this is great news for those who have always kept their noses out of the grey/black hat world, though as always we’ve seen the shouts of “i’ve got away with it” … check out this podcast to here the latest on the update, we will have more soon when the data settles in the coming week.
